We are pleased to share with you the exciting news about Marjan de Visser’s involvement in the research, conservation and restoration of a work by Vincent Van Gogh entitled “Lenten Garden”. Marjan started researching the painting with dedication after the theft in 2020.

Stolen Van Gogh, 1884 Parsonage Garden in the spring of Nuenen, valued at €6m, on display since return. Restorer Marjan de Visser examines the damage. Detective Arthur Brand played a crucial role in the recovery. The exhibition in Depot BvB in Rotterdam is open to the public. And can be seen ‘behind the scenes’ in the Groninger Museum from March 29. Stolen in 2020 and resurfaced after 3.5 years. Van Gogh’s early style is clearly visible. Stolen Van Gogh painting, ‘The Parsonage Garden at Neuen in Spring’, returned in an IKEA bag, now on display at Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen. Stolen in 2020 from Singer Laren Museum, triggering a search. Arthur Brand facilitated its anonymous return. Authentication confirmed by Groninger Museum’s director. Conservator Marjan de Visser found damage, revealing it was originally a winter scene on linen, highlighting efforts to recover stolen art.

Van Gogh’s “The Parsonage Garden in the Spring of Nuenen” stolen in 2020, restored in 2023. Restorer Marjan de Visser identified it as painted on linen. Exhibited in Rotterdam, later in the Groninger Museum. Plans for restoration. Groninger Museum exhibition about Van Gogh’s early exhibitions in 1896. A special painting can be seen in the Boijmans van Beuningen Depot: Vincent van Gogh’s Spring Garden (1884), once stolen. It is currently being investigated how the damage during the disappearance can best be restored by restorer Marjan de Visser. (Article In Dutch)

“…The painting Spring Garden: the parsonage garden in Nuenen in the spring (1884) could be viewed on Wednesday in Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam. Vincent van Gogh’s work was stolen from the Singer Laren museum in 2020 and returned to the owner in 2023. Since then, the artwork has been examined by restorer Marjan de Visser…” (Content In Dutch)

The stolen Van Gogh painting, damaged during a robbery in 2020, can be repaired, says restorer Marjan de Visser. Exhibited in the Boijmans van Beuningen Depot, it will be studied for repairs. Deep scratches and broken canvas noted. Director of the Groninger Museum, Andreas Blühm, optimistic. Painting returns to the Groninger Museum on March 29, four years after the theft.
